A handmade print.
This collagraph is made by layering up different textures onto a plate. Here I have used different tapes and papers with different surfaces. The shinnier papers don't absorb as much ink as the rougher papers. So the light areas on the print are where the ink has been rubbed away more, the darker areas of tone are created using more absorbent materials that holds onto the ink more. I cover the plate in ink and then rub it all away again, and the ink that remains on the plate in the textures and different surfaces then creates the image.
This is a limited edition of just 5 prints.

Hand made and hand printed using etching ink onto Fabriano paper.
17cm x 13cm
There are some areas around the print have finger prints (as this is much more messy process involving lots of sticky ink) but these won't be visible when the work is mounted and framed.
